Our Story

Our roots start in 1989 under the name J&S Forest Management Services. Our business started with a borrowed wood splitter, pickup truck and a chain saw. Over the next 33 years our founder Steve Kraft worked to grow his business by providing his customers with fair and honest service. He prided himself as being a one stop shop for woodlot management starting with his forestry expertise to create management plans for customers who wanted to enroll in Vermont's current use program. Once the plan was created, he specialized in selective cutting to remove the mature and crooked trees to make space for the good tress to grow. The problem arose of what to do with the crooked and small logs that a regular sawmill wouldn't accept. That is where Steve saw an opportunity to be a firewood supplier to put to use what otherwise would be left to rot in the woods. His lumber business was also based on the desire to use more of the logs that a large mill would not buy.
